Late Period on Birth Control

Late period on birth control is something that often scared for some women. This is one of the most frequently asked questions if you are trying a new medicine or some methods of birth control. Even the late period can take more than 5-6 weeks, which usually known as amenorrhea.

If you are not on a birth control, a missed period can be the strong indication or early symptoms of pregnancy which will be the good news if you are trying to get pregnant.

Generally, other reasons of late period include; illness (like a head cold or flu may also delay your cycle), the side effects of a certain medication (including some methods of birth control or a certain form of antibiotic), changes in your schedule that result increased activity or even stress, the side effects of your new diet, doing too heavy activities (like a heavy exercise, dancing or running), poor sleep, etc.

A late period on birth control actually means the late of the ovulation, but does not mean the late of the menstrual cycle. Birth control is not only used for women who don’t want to get pregnant, but also sometimes also to maintain the monthly cycle of a woman, including her ovulation or menstrual days.

Causes or factors of a late period on birth control

There are many reasons that can cause a missed period while you are taking or using a form of birth control (contraceptive), which usually almost similar with the reasons of a missed period if you are not on birth control. And some of these reasons are stress, pre-menopause or menopause, tight schedule (increased activity), certain medications, and extended /manipulating /stopping /switching of birth control.

The causes can be different from one woman to another, depending on the individual situations (like the type of medication, activities, health problems and even the level of emotional that she has)!

Is ‘late period’ on birth control safe?

Birth control is purposed to prevent pregnancy for a women who doesn’t want to get pregnant, even as mentioned before it can be used to manipulate a woman’s period. There are some opinions say that missed period can be the indication of a build-up of toxins in the body, but this opinion is not absolutely true! Even a late period is a common case while you taking a form of birth control!

Generally, a late period (while you taking a form of contraceptive) does not have a medical function other than allowing or letting you to know that you are not pregnant! Moreover, contraceptives or birth controls also can work effective to create a desired cycle length or prevent a period like Depo-Provera!

The manipulation of a women’s period or a longer monthly period is also purposed for some reasons, such as; demanding jobs, honeymoon dates, vacations, or other health issues! Even, some studies found that most of women who are on birth control pills actually loved a longer cycle in order to reduce bloating, fatigue, headaches, cramps, PMS or other symptoms of menstrual.
