Factors that Can Cause Depression

In this modern living, depression is something can be found not too difficultly in our environment. There are a lot of factors that can lead to this problem -- some of those factors are unemployment, grief, financial problems or trauma, and so on. Read also signs of depression in women!

But there are also some cases that not easy to pinpoint a specific cause. And even sometimes there are no a concrete factor or reason for a certain depression case. The following are some factors that can cause depression.

Lack of fish consumption

One of important nutritious elements in fish is omega-3 fatty acids. Low intake of this may be associated to higher risk of depression. Omega-2 fatty acids can be found in vegetable oils, salmon, and so on.

Furthermore, the fish oil is also useful to eliminate depression in individual with bipolar disorder. So, why not to list more fish and vegetable oils in your daily menu list? Because there are many advantages by consuming them regularly!

You have bad quality of sleep habits

It is so important to have good sleep habits otherwise you can increase the risk of depression attack for yourself. Poor sleep also can cause irritability problem in your daily activities. Moreover this bad behavior will limit the access for your brain to replenish (brain cells) that eventually can decrease the performance of the brain (no longer to work optimal) and can lead to depression problem.

Your environment

Your environment can give a significant effect to your emotion in your daily activities. If your environment is not too friendly for you, then the risk to get depression or stress attack will be higher. People who are living in urban situation will have 39 percent higher level risk of mood disorder than others who are living in rural regions.

Therefore, if you live in urban regions, you should take a vacation with your friends or your family at least once a month or once a week if necessary to eliminate stress. Don’t forget to always keep good social relationship in your environment.

Bad effects from smoking

It is undeniable that one of the most commonly factor that always associated to depression is smoking. Nicotine is the key which can give bad affect to neurotransmitter of the brain that eventually will cause higher levels of serotonin & dopamine.

So, if you seriously want to keep far away from depression then you have to avoid cigarettes and stop smoking in order to help and keep the balance of the brain chemicals.

The hottest days of summer

In fact, there are some people who are getting depression due to warm weather. SAD or seasonal affective disorder is most commonly related with winter blues, and there is around five percent of Americans who are afflicted by this seasonal affective disorder. And around less than one percent of them gets the form of depression attacks in the summer season.

Alfred Lewy, MD (a professor from Oregon Health & Science University) says that hot temperature of summer days can increase the risk of depression attack when our body experiences an abeyance adjusting to new seasons.

The body will get a hard time adjusting, instead of enjoying dawn and waking. This is caused by imbalance composition of hormone melatonin and brain chemistry.

What are other factors?

Like mentioned before, there are a lot of causes that can lead to depression, such as; a side effect of many medications, thyroid disease, poor sibling relationships, and even birth control pills or overload on playing facebook also can cause depression.
