Short Term Memory Loss Causes

There are many possible short term memory loss causes! But in many cases, the risk of developing memory loss is relatively higher in older people. In other words, the natural progression of our age is one of the most major causes.

Although short term memory loss is common as we get older, but this progression can be more quickly to develop due to other disorders or external factors!

There are some possible conditions associated with short term memory loss, which may include;
  1. Concussion! It is an injury to the brain. It may lead to memory loss, confusion, headache, or drowsiness.
  2. Depression in adult. It is a painful & serious sadness that will interfere with daily life. It can result serious problems such as anxiety and hopelessness.
  3. Depression in children. Like depression in adult, it is also a painful sadness and can influence the child’s social activities (either for their family life or schoolwork).
  4. Benign essential tremor! It is also believed can cause memory problems. Moreover, it can lead to shaking of the forearms, hands, and even a quivering voice.
  5. Dementia Lewy Bodies (DLB), it is a serious disorder or problem in the brain that can lead to difficulties on managing memory & movement.
  6. Dementia that is caused by head injury. This can be serious problem that can cause personality & lifestyle changes, problems in speaking, and memory problems.
  7. Acute stress! People with acute stress are not only more likely to have higher risk of short term memory loss but also will experiences some unfriendly conditions such as; sense of doom, anxiety, nervousness, and even shortness of breath.
  8. Alzheimer’s disease! It is one of common types & causes of dementia. It can be so harmful and can lead to serious memory loss. People with Alzheimer’s disease have difficulties to think, and behavior problems.
  9. Cocaine abuse! It is the wrong use of cocaine. In other words, a person keeps continuing to use cocaine despite the health & social problems caused by it. Furthermore, there are some recent studies that found marijuana abuse may also contribute to cause short-term memory loss.
  10. Side-effect of certain medications. If you are taking a certain medication, there may be side-effect from your medicine that can affect your memory. Consult with your doctor for more detailed information.
  11. Parkinson disease (a serious disorder that can lead to slow movement and tremors stiffness). It is a disorder or problem of the nervous system.
  12. Other possible conditions that are often associated to short-term memory loss causes are methamphetamine use (it can lead to enlarges pupils, increased levels of heart rate & blood pressure, etc) and cold exposure (the signs of this may include changes on the patient’s skin, such as; redness, numbness, blisters, and stinging)!
Additionally, the successfully of the treatments are dependent on the causes. So, if the short-term memory loss cause is treatable, then the chance of the treatment to work successfully is relatively higher.
