Type-2 Diabetes Causes (The Role of Insulin)

What you should know about type 2 diabetes causes, especially about the role of insulin in the reason of type 2 diabetes? As well we know that it is the most common type of diabetes, even approximately effecting up to 85-90 percent (or more) of all individuals with diabetes!

You may also like to read appropriately diet for people with type-2 diabetes, before continuing!

And although older people are more likely susceptible to getting this disease (because in the older period, the body tend to work less tolerant of sugars), but your risk is also higher if you are overweight, you have a family history with diabetes, you get a metabolic syndrome (the combination of some health problems such as high blood pressure, high bad cholesterol, or high triglycerides) and so on.

So what are the type 2 diabetes causes?

The body of healthy person has pancreas that can release insulin in order to properly store & use the sugar from the food. The insulin hormone works well so thus the glucose from food can be properly converted to be fuel for the energy of the body’s activity or movement.

And diabetes can occur if:
  1. The body cannot respond well to use the insulin hormone or familiar known as ‘insulin resistance’.
  2. The inability pancreas to work properly, it can produce insulin but there is not enough insulin!
  3. And the pancreas loses its function to produce insulin, or in other words we can say that the pancreas doesn’t work to create any insulin!
The first and second points are the most common condition in type-2 diabetes, and for the third point is the most common condition in type-1 diabetes.

The correlation of insulin in the reason of type-2 diabetes!

In order to understand the role of insulin in the cause of type-2 diabetes, you may need to know first about the mechanism of the body to use food that we eat for energy.

The human body consists of a lot of cells (million of cells). To create energy to support your activity, the cells of your body require food in a greatly simple form. Much of food that you eat will be broken down into glucose (a simple sugar form). Then by using the mechanism of bloodstream, the glucose will be distributed to the cells of the body where then will be processed to provide fuel to support your daily activities.

And the mechanism of your bloodstream is closely associated with the function of hormone insulin. Insulin has a significant contribution to regulate the bloodstream! It is released by your pancreas organ in small amounts.

The pancreas will create and release more amounts of insulin if the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood rises, in order to maintain the glucose by pushing it more into the cells -- so thus the glucose level in the blood is under control! But if the level of glucose is too low or familiar known as hypoglycemia, the body will give signal to you to eat, or the body will release some amount of glucose (particularly from the stores in the liver)!

What else you should know about type 2 diabetes causes?

Type 2 diabetes is relatively more common (particularly if compared with type-1), but it is not easy to understand the cause of type-2! It is more often caused or generated by multiple factors!

And you should be aware to the condition that your risk of type 2 diabetes is higher if you have one of the following conditions:
  1. You have not normal high blood pressure (high blood pressure) and overweight, especially if you are over 45 years old of age.
  2. Have lack of exercise, especially for older people ‘over 55 years of age’.
  3. One of your family members has diabetes (diabetes family history).
  4. For women who have gestational diabetes during pregnancy!
  5. And recent studies found that the risk is also higher for certain ethnicities in the age of over 35 years (such as Chinese background, Indian background, Pacific Island background, and Aboriginal background).
