Gestational Diabetes Test Preparation

What you should know about gestational diabetes test preparation? Like written in the previous article about gestational diabetes symptoms and causes, there are no clearly causes of this disease. Therefore, you need to get a proper screening test to find a clearly diagnosis, particularly after 24-28th of your pregnancy!

Understanding what you should prepare before going to test will be helpful enough to make sure that you are ready for your test which eventually will be useful to obtain the most accurate test-results, so thus you get the better chance to avoid any further testing!

Once again, your preparation should be directed to all steps in order to get the most accurate test result! And the following are pieces of helpful information about gestational diabetes test preparation.
  1. Keep far away from anything out of ordinary! In the few days before your test, eat your normal diet! To get the most accurate test result, the test usually requires the normal condition of your body (it requires to profile your body on a regular day). Therefore, avoid eating extra healthy in your preparation.
  2. Your doctor may recommend stopping to drink anything for about 12 hours before the appointment of your test. So, if the schedule of the test is 7 AM then you should stop drinking in the night before (about 7PM). If you are not able to do this recommendation, tell with your doctor to get more advices. Drinking anything about 12 hours or less before your test can interfere with the absorption of the glucose in your body, which eventually may influence your test result!
  3. If you have a certain medication, allow your doctor to know your medication completely, because a certain medication may be able to give any anomalies in the test results.
  4. The gestational diabetes tests usually need to draw blood from your body (which usually at least twice). Therefore, make sure you wear a loose fitting shirt, sleeveless, or short sleeve in order to make sure that the lab-test can get to your hands or arms not too difficultly (easily). Sweater or jacket that can be easily to be removed is also nice idea in the wintertime.
  5. You may need to wait in the lab for a couple of hours; therefore you can bring your favorite book to entertain yourself. But avoid choosing to bring any hand-held video games because this is bad idea that can generate physical activity which eventually may alter your gestational diabetes test result!
