Based on the causes, dementia can be divided into two major categories; untreatable and treatable dementia! As well we know that dementia is more likely to develop in elderly individuals. Therefore, most of cases are dominated by the people or individuals over the age of 65 (It can attack about 8 to 5 percent of older people in their 65s, even about half of people over the age of 80s may have some form of dementia).
Untreatable Dementia
There are some factors or causes that can lead to untreatable dementias. These causes are difficult to be cured or more likely untreatable! Below are some of them:
- Like written in the previous post, Alzheimer’s is one of the most causes! And this cause is so difficult to be cured!
- CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease), a quickly developing, progressing and fatal illness that usually with the combination disorders among spasm, muscle twitching and dementia!
- AIDS dementia complex!
- Associated or due to Parkinson’s disease.
- Then because of multiple small strokes that eventually will lead to multi-infarct form of dementia.
Treatable Dementia
Then for a highly-treated of dementia is usually caused by treatable causes. And the following are some of them:
- Caused by hypoglycemia (can lead to low blood sugar) and hypothyroidism (can lead to an underactive thyroid).
- A form of dementia due to normal-pressure hydrocephalus.
- A head injury due to subdural hematoma, which can cause a poor performance of blood vessel (broken blood vessel). Subdural hematoma usually occurs beneath the outer covering of the brain, which is an accumulation of blood.
- Then because of the deficiency of vitamin B12 that can cause metabolic disorders.
- Due to treatable tumors (can be removed).
- Caused by long-term substance abuse!
