To common parents like us, all of those illnesses are practically pretty much the same. In worse conditions where avian influenza cases occur, some specific symptoms may show. Flu symptoms can sometimes be deceitful. There is also a chance that late treatments of influenza may lead into more severe cases, especially when fever happens for more than three days. Fever is a sign of infection, and when it happens as part of influenza it means that the virus causing the illness has also caused infections.

What Flu Is All About
Flu symptoms are often mixed up as cold signs. Influenza is caused by several different viruses, and due to its differences in natures, seasonal flu can also be various. Respiratory infection that triggers influenza can turn to be severe medical conditions. Flu symptoms often occur between September until May, normally at the beginning of fall and ends by the end of spring. Those who are susceptible to flu including kids, elderly and those with decreasing immune systems due to stress, fatigue, and lack of sleep.

How can parents differentiate flu symptoms from cold signs? Aren’t these terms exchangeable? Well, flu is considered a heavier condition of cold. Common cold normally starts gradually with only runny nose, sneezing and sometimes coughing but without respiratory infection condition. Influenza, on the other hand, strikes suddenly with several signs occurring at the same time. Here are some of them:

• body aching, feeling of fatigue and followed by increasing body temperature, reaching to a condition of high fever
• aching that is felt normally around the muscles, joints, and watery eyes
• if your skin is fair it is easy to see warmer body temperature reflected on flushing skin, usually comes along with headache
• throat starts to sore, followed with cough –dry cough-
• in a more severe cases of seasonal flu, vomiting and diarrhea can also happen, especially in kids

Kids’ Flu Symptoms
How different is it flu symptoms on kids compared to those on adults? There are basic differences of the signs between younger kids –babies and toddlers- with older kids. Younger kids can lead to pneumonia or bronchitis, especially if the level of humidity is high. These respiratory infections may cause pains in the tummy, vomiting, and diarrhea. Thus, this condition can be tackled through certain immunizations which improve body immune system to fight against the viruses. On older kids, flu usually starts with high fever reaching up to forty degrees Celcius. They can also feel sick, suffer from headaches and body aching. Although the symptoms may just occur for a few days, but feeling of fatigue and/ or coughing can continue until ten to fourteen days.
