Borderline Personality Disorder Symptoms!

BPD or borderline personality disorder is a kind of mental disease! Almost similar like other mental illnesses, it can cause impulsive behaviors, mood swings, and serious problems associated with self-worth and relationships. Then, how about with the symptoms? Well, most people who have this disorder usually also have other similar problems (such as substance abuse, eating disorders, or depression). Let’s explore more the signs /symptoms of BPD!

In many cases, the symptoms of BPD first occur in childhood, but the signs don’t cause any clearly problems until early adulthood. However, BPD can be cured with the right treatments -- though this can be challenging and sometimes take years to completely treat BPD (because problems associated with behaviors or emotions are difficult to improve)!

Sometimes, the treatment may cure & work better than the expectation. With the right treatments, many individuals with BPD (even those with severe stages) can get better over time.

Borderline Personality Disorder Symptoms

Fear of being abandoned or left alone (with not-real threat of being left alone) is one of common features of BPD. If you have BPD, this fear may make you become too dependent on others. You can experience erratic behavior, and this can cause troubled relationships in many aspects of your life.

There are also other personality disorders that may present or occur in addition to BPD. And some of these conditions are:
  1. A personality disorder that involves a pattern of violation of the right others or disregard for others -- or usually familiar known as antisocial personality disorder.
  2. A condition that involves dramatic behavior, attention-seeking behavior, and emotional reactions -- or familiar known as histrionic personality disorder.
  3. A condition that can lead to an individual to avoid interaction with others (particularly for the interaction associated with new activities that can prove embarrassing) -- or familiar known as avoidant personality disorder.
As mentioned before, people with BPD may also experience other mental health conditions, and this can complicate the treatment! Some of these conditions may include:
  1. ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
  2. Manic depression (bipolar disorder)!
  3. Bulimia nervosa (a kind of eating disorders).
  4. Panic attacks.
  5. Problems associated with substance abuse.
  6. And depression!
And there are some common borderline personality disorder symptoms. People with BPD usually have at least 5 of the following signs:
  1. They experience episodes of losing of a sense of reality or feeling suspicious of other with unknown reason -- these episodes are usually temporary.
  2. The emptiness feelings which can be long-term feelings!
  3. They have recurring thoughts of death and suicide tendency!
  4. Sometimes they cannot identify their own identity (experience an unstable self-image).
  5. To avoid imagined or real abandonment, they often make frantic efforts!
  6. Difficult to control their anger! Even they may often get into ‘fights (physical fights)’ or display ‘temper tantrums’!
  7. They have intense mood swings or frequent overreactions of emotional. This may include anxious, irritable, or depressed! These emotional overreactions usually occur within a few hours at a time, or even can last longer (1-2 days in rare cases)!
  8. Do something stupid that can be self-damaging, like binge eating, unsafely driving, substance abuse, or unprotected & frequent sex with different partners!
  9. And finally their borderline personality disorder symptoms can cause a pattern of difficult relationships!
Note: don’t jump directly to a conclusion or diagnosis on your own of any symptoms that you experience. If you in doubt about any signs that you have, see a doctor immediately to consult and discuss your problems!
