Are you a woman? And every time you eat wheat and then you feel something wrong with your body? If you experience this condition, you should begin ask to yourself whether you have wheat allergy (see your doctor for more advices)! The next question, what are wheat allergy symptoms in women?

You may also like to read about nut allergy symptoms and allergic reaction rash, before continuing!

In fact, there are a lot of foods that are made with wheat, and on the other hand if you have wheat allergy then you have to avoid eating all of them in order to keep under control your allergic reactions. You need more efforts to do your wheat-free diet since there are many unsuspecting products that have wheat!

Symptoms of wheat allergy in women

Don’t take directly the conclusion to diagnose what have you suffered. The diagnosis of wheat allergy may not be enough just through some symptoms that you experience. Always talk with your doctor, especially if the symptoms are getting worse or you experience severe symptoms (but it’s much better not wait until the worse symptoms).

There are some wheat allergy symptoms in women, which may be also almost similar with the symptoms in men. These symptoms may include; allergic rhinitis, eczema, bronchospasm (the smooth muscle in the walls of bronchioles & bronchi gets contraction, which then can cause narrowing of the lumen), and stomach upset.

Like other allergies, people who suffer from wheat also have chance to experience anaphylaxis. It may be the worst symptom and even can lead to potentially life-threatening. It can be the combination of multiple symptoms and usually comes in rapid progression. Therefore, people with allergy should keep prepared for emergency (talk with doctor for more tips about this issue!).

Celiac disease and wheat allergy

Furthermore, sometimes wheat allergy may be also associated with celiac disease. It is a disease that will not allow people who have this disease to eat gluten foods, and they must do gluten-free diet or celiac disease diet. And gluten can come from rye, barley and wheat!

People with celiac disease will be difficult to absorb nutrient from the food that they eat, which eventually can lead to malabsorption and malnutrition.

But don’t worry, not all people with wheat allergy might have celiac disease. Even people who have some symptoms of celiac disease can get ‘negative test result’ of celiac disease, and this situation is always associated what we call as gluten sensitivity. Consult with your doctor for more detailed information!

And women with celiac disease have higher risk to experience infertility, getting more than one miscarriage, and osteoporosis that comes more quickly (due to poor performance of their body to absorb calcium from the food that they eat)!

Living with your wheat allergy!

People who suffer from wheat should keep far away from any foods that contain wheat. Strictly limiting & avoiding consuming or eating wheat-foods are still the best way to control the allergic reaction. Talk with a registered dietitian for more advices and tips on how to do properly your wheat-free diet and don’t forget to ask about the right foods that you should choose to substitute wheat!

Don’t forget to check and read the label ingredients before buying or using a certain product. Be careful also to foods that hide wheat, like catsup or ice cream (they may also have wheat flour). And below is a table (from WEBMD) of wheat products and some foods that may also have wheat:
