In fact, we can spend a lot of time in bed every day! Therefore, if you seriously concern to your health (especially for your back), you should choose the best one of mattresses that can properly support your body when you sleep at night. And there are now a lot of mattress products that claimed to be able to give the most comfort zone when you sleep, but which is one that actually works with your body? According to a study in Spain that involved about 313 patients, most of participants who slept on firm mattresses told that they got poor improvement than others who slept on medium mattresses. The Spanish scientists said, though the participants didn’t know the type of their mattress in this research, but the result of this study is still questionable because the participants could know whether they had a medium mattress or firm mattress.

Furthermore, the Spanish scientists also believed that the result of this study may have been affected or influenced by believing that medium mattress is worse than firm mattress! There may be needed more researches to clearly confirm the best mattress for back pain!

And unfortunately, there is still no single formula to determine good or bad mattress for all people with back pain! Many experts still believe that ‘trial & error’ is the best idea to find the best mattress for back pain that meets to your requirement! In other words, you need to follow some tips and recommendations from your doctor, but in many cases you still need ‘trial & error’ approach to get clearly answer.

And the following are some common suggestions on choosing best mattress for back pain!
  1. Get to know when it’s time to purchase a new one! A clearly sign that indicates you need to get a new mattress is when your old mattress is no longer comfortable to support your body when you sleep!
  2. Explore more what are actually needed by your body! In other words, personal preference has big role on finding and choosing the best one! As mentioned before, you should clearly understand that there is no single model or type of mattress that works for anyone who have back pain.
  3. Learn more the physical components of mattress that you want to buy! Some common components you should consider may include the thickness of padding and the number of coils.
  4. Find one with good back support! Choose one that can provide properly support for alignment of your spine, and for your natural curve. In fact, the muscle soreness can be eliminated by having mattress that can provide the properly amount of back support.
  5. Choose one that gives a balance between comfort & back support! The adequate amount of back support is equally important to the comfort! If you want to use firm mattress instead of medium-firm mattress, you can consider one that comes with thicker padding in order to get better comfort. But your doctor may recommend choosing medium-firm instead of firmer mattress because it may be relatively more comfortable and it will allow hips & shoulder to sink in slightly!
  6. Get a test-run for a type of mattress that you want to buy! We all agree that by testing directly the mattress that you’re purchasing is the best idea to figure out whether it can be able to accommodate your requirements or not! When shopping at a certain store, try lie down on the mattress directly for several minutes and learn the respond of your body! If the mattress will be used for two individuals, you should also invite your partner (your wife or your husband) to directly test the mattress before making deal -- make sure there is adequate space for both of you.
  7. Find also some objective testimonials of certain product that you’re purchasing! You can find them on internet or ask to your friends & neighbors that have experience of the same condition that you have.
  8. And don’t be fooled by unreasonable cheap price -- always prioritize the quality! Purchase one from trustworthy brand! Don’t forget to also consider the warranty, delivery costs, and the return policy!
